This project is ultimately aimed at enhancing the quality of, and access to, learning and teaching in the FET College sector (in the Eastern Cape) through the creative and innovative use of information and communication technology (ICT). One of the initial objectives has been to establish a multi-purpose e-Network operating between and within all 25 campuses of the 8 Public FET (Further Education & Training) Colleges, and the Education Leadership Institute, in the Eastern Cape. One of the main outcomes of this will be a sustainable blended learning solution, incorporating a fully functional e-Learning system for prioritized subjects. One of the first steps was setting up the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) -- with the main partners at this stage being Fujitsu-Siemens, GtZ, Eastern Cape Department of Education, Lower Saxony Ministry of Education (with NiLS - the Teacher Training Institute of Lower Saxony - being the main initial implementing agent). Through this partnership : Ø Five servers have been delivered & installed (1 at each of 5 colleges) Ø A computer lab (incorporating 1 server & 12 work stations) installed at the Education Leadership Institute (East London) Ø Training & support of various kinds has been undertaken Please refer to Recent Developments to see more recent project developments. |
